Law and Order
A Kaduna State High Court II sitting in GRA, Zaria, yesterday nullified the appointments of the new 77 district heads by Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i.
The court had earlier ordered the state government to maintain the status quo in a case filed by some of the deposed district head.
But el-Rufa’i went ahead to appoint the new district Heads; a development that made the counsel to the plaintiffs, Yemi Adekunle, to request the court to nullify the appointments.
Justice Kabir Dabo ruled that all the appointments were null and void.
Adekunle said: “By law, there is no any new district head in Kaduna state with this order of the court. The sacked district heads remain in their positions pending the determination of this case. The appointment of the new district heads was made against the lawful order of this court. The order was served on the dependants. We didn’t go for contempt proceedings because the law allows that the same court can set aside whatever that was done.”
